Governance

//TL;DR: The United Stands of Lemonade is a large-scale experiment in non-plutorcratic governance and funding onchain creators, communities and event organizers to bring the next billion onchain.

UNITED STANDS OF LEMONADE is a community of creators, communities, companies, and citizens working together to build onchain Lemonade Stands at the intersection of culture & crypto.

Together we will dispel the myth that building onchain is meant for a small population of crypto insiders, and cannot be accessible to billions of people across the world. Majority of event creators, community builders and small businesses often go unnoticed or underfunded when platforms and partners aren't properly aligned. Most are turned off from building community & commerce onchain due to being overwhelmed by the complexity, clunky user experience, and overall not feeling welcomed and supported by the existing small onchain community of “insiders”.

The United Stands of Lemonade are bound by a mutually beneficial pact to make onchain more inclusive, and a vision that can be summed up with the equation Online = Onchain.

Online = Onchain

Lemonade will deploy a new model for rewarding those who create or sustain onchain commerce, to support Lemonade Stands building communities onchain.

It will do so by pushing by building digital public goods (products & platform) that remove friction and provides retroactive incentives and rewards with a magical user experience to Lemonade Stand builders and their communities.

A seamless product experience combined with retroactive rewards and incentives are advantageous because it is relatively easy to agree on what authentic with a positive impact, and reward those who put in the effort to make it happen. The possibility of an eventual exit payment or reward can also encourage community builders and event organizers to build onchain, in the same way as sponsorships and advertising revenue drives creators to build offchain.

How is this going to be governed?

Blockchain governance is still very much in its infancy. While many exciting experiments are underway, a long road lies ahead. A governance system which promotes innovation, self-expression, and liberty—without getting in the way—will not be built in a day.

The United Stands of Lemonade takes an experimental and agile approach to governance iterating towards an inclusive and sustainable economy long-term with control distributed horizontally and vertically enshrined by an iterative Constitution.

Inspired by the Optimism Collective, we’ve spent countless hours setting a vision for the United Stands of Lemonade, but are well aware that we couldn’t possibly get it all right on the first try. A governance model which can stand the test of *decades—not years—*will take time to get right. So, United Stands of Lemonade governance will self destruct. Repeatedly.

And with each new iteration, a more resilient, sustainable system will rise from the ashes.

The Constitution

The Constitution of the United Stands of Lemonade enshrines key provisions for building an inclusive ecosystem for creators and community while distributing control without sacrificing speed of iteration- notably:

  • Fundamental Rights & Duties of Citizens: Guidelines outlined for all Citizens to foster an inclusive community with liberty and good vibes- where all feel welcome, respected and free.

  • Distributed control: Four different branches of the Government with clearly outlined roles & responsibilities managed by citizens, token holders and the Lemonade Foundation to provide a healthy system of checks & balances with protection of minority rights

  • Experimentation: Iteration and improvements learning from failures and feedback stewarded by the Lemonade Foundation

  • An explicit self-destruct mechanism: The Lemonade Constituted itself remain in effect for no more than 4 years- upon depletion of the Ecosystem Fund and iterations be replaced by a permanent “Bedrock Constitution”

The Lemonade Foundation will steward the United Stands of Lemonade Constitution take responsibility of enacting the will of the Citizens, token holders and community until the time the protocol is decentralized.

Separation of Power

The Constitution defines four different branches of Governance to maintain a healthy balance that prohibits the concentration of influence within the hands of a small group of citizens, token holders or the Lemonade Foundation. These are:

LEGISLATURE

The cornerstone of United Stands of Lemonade governance, translating community representation into collective action. The legislature is the nexus of representation, where delegates from each network state come together to deploy treasury funds to spur growth and innovation.
